An Owl Appeared

This ATC started with a Zentangle "string".  I patterned the outside first, with one of Joanne Fink's patterns.  Then an owl appeared to me so I added some feathers and facial features and finished it off with some colour.

Artist Trading Cards are a perfect size for me.  It is hard to get too intimidated by a 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" rectangle LOL

Dangles

I'm still doodling.  Joanne Fink calls these "Dangles".  They're fun, fast, and satisfy my "clean and graphic" style.

Another Calligraphy Experiment

This is another interesting experiment from Peter Halliday's book, Calligraphy Art & Colour.

I mixed gouache with blue watercolour and used a Speedball C-2 nib. Starting in the middle of the page, I added more water each time I turned the journal to write the next line.  Fun, and practice at the same time!

I'm still playing with doodles, this time in my art journal with watercolors.

I'm enjoying Randel Plowman's A Collage A Day blog, and it inspired me to make this Artist Trading Card:

Calligraphy Experiment

One of the things I love about the Westcoast Calligraphy Society is their library.  Last month, I took out Calligraphy Art & Colour by Peter Halliday, and it includes experiments and projects to try.  Here's one I did in my journal:

Touring

When I was cleaning out my Mom's apartment last year, I came across an old "Touring" card game that we used to play when I was a child.  Great vintage collage fodder, although it took me awhile to get the nerve to cut into the cards.

This will complete my recent series of six vintage collage inchie artist trading cards.

Japanese Children's Book

Mel included a vintage Japanese Children's book in my box of goodies.  It is made of nice stiff card, so it makes great inchies.  The images are so precious they speak for themselves.

Stinger

I had enough papers left from the vintage drinks recipe book to make another artist trading card:

Exercise in Negative Space

At our Westcoast Calligraphy Society meeting in May, we enjoyed a presentation from Emmanuelle Renard and Oscar Valero.  Emmanuelle and Oscar have been collaborating for the last 4 months at Malaspina Printmakers Society, working with lithography. They have been exploring language, alphabet and mark making.

Our homework is to try some pieces inspired by their presentation.  One of the things that inspired me was a piece done with negative space.  I tried one using some alphabet masks and spray watercolours:

An Inchie Card

Tomorrow I am going to a shoebox party at Crafty Lady Too's house - how exciting!  We are each bringing a shoebox containing a card sample and "ingredients" so that each person can make one.  Here is my card:
