Autumn Leaves

I've been practicing my brush lettering. That's what I'm most proud of on this page. Thanks to Gay Krieger and the Strathmore classes for tips on finishing the journal page!

Homework

We did backgrounds this month at the Westcoast Calligraphy Society meeting.  This one is done with markers and saran wrap - a new one for me!  Our homework was to letter something about "dreams".  I used my favorite "Weaver Writing".

Sketching at The Crescent

Residents of Vancouver will know The Crescent as a circle street of large mansions. Alas, not many places to sit, so this isn't a terribly interesting sketch. But the day was beautiful for a bike ride.

The Crescent will be a great place for car sketching!

CAT

On Wednesday I made my weekly trek to Coquitlam to visit my Mom in the care home where she lives. Usually I get a spot in the small parking lot, but sometimes I have to park on an adjoining side street. Imagine my surprise when I saw what had replaced the house I often park in front of!

Whimsical Lettering ATC's

As I previously mentioned, I'm currently reading Joanne Sharpe's book, The Art of Whimsical Lettering.  Joanne doesn't teach calligraphy, she encourages us all to embrace our own handwriting, and teaches techniques to make it look more interesting.  Her philosophy is to embrace the imperfections.  So, I made a few imperfect artist trading cards for the next swap.

Neighborhood Park

I went yesterday to a neighborhood park, Douglas Park, to sketch. This is the community center.

A bike is a great way to scope out the scene and pick a spot. I found a picnic table in the shade - perfect!

Revisiting a Favorite

I almost said "revisiting an old favorite", but I'm sure Joanne Sharpe wouldn't appreciate that!  LOL  Joanne's Letter Love class is an "old" favorite of mine, and I'm revisiting it by reading her new book "The Art of Whimsical Lettering".  Fun!

My First Car Sketch

Inspired by Ms. Moss from LA, I'm sketching in the car. Not while driving, of course.

My first sketch also features a car.

Draw Your Awesome Year

August is over,

And September is just beginning:

Joanne Sharpe continues to come up with interesting ideas for our monthly pages.  In this one we did a Trompe L'Oeil effect, drawing a composition book and writing tools on our journal page.
