Still Inspired

I thought I was finished with the Christmas cards, but I continue to be inspired by grids and what is in my stash.

I love these little stamps by Studio G but I've never figured out how to use them. It turns out they go nicely on this paper that I love but couldn't figure out either!

Thoughts on Unfinished Journals: You Don't Have to Finish the Way You Started

The second journal I'm working on finishing began its life as a sketchbook. Most of the pages are kraft, and a few are cream. I stumbled upon a You Tube video by Robyn McClendon in which she prints in a kraft journal and a light bulb lit up in my head. I may change my mind again, but so far, I'm having lots of fun!

Each day I work with a different color palette.

A few trees are making an appearance.

In Joined Hands There is Hope

ATC, Rubber Stamps, Inktense, Pen

This is a real mixed media extravaganza! First I stamped various stamps on white cardstock, dripped Inktense Blocks, and collaged dyed napkin for a background.

The focal point is stamped on tissue paper and the script added with a Platinum Carbon Ink Fountain Pen.

I'm using gel medium for collage now and loving it! Note to self: Let delicate materials like napkins and tissue paper dry after using the first layer of gel medium to glue them down. When they are dry, more layers can be added.

Rediscovering Peel-Offs

I've been playing with Magenta Peel-Off stickers lately. These are watercolored with Inktense Pencils on watercolor paper.

I made these two from a gift of scrapbook scraps. I'll give them back to the sweet gift givers.

Finding Inspiration for ICAD #19-21

I think it was Tammy at Yellow Daisy Art, the brains behind the ICAD project who did a summer to-do list on one of her index cards. It was a great chance to play with alphabet stamps.

PS - Camping for me means sleeping in the basement when the weather is too hot to sleep upstairs!

A Card for Rylan

Back to My Roots

I'm currently reading "The Happiness Project", and I was immediately struck by the "Be Gretchen" commandment, which reminded the author, Gretchen Rubin, to be herself.

I've tried a lot of different art media and card styles over the years, some more successfully than others. (For a less successful card style, see yesterday's post about "one-layer" cards). When I am reminded to "Be Susan", I am more successful, and yes, happier. Unlike the one-layer card, this "clean and graphic" card came together quickly. It made me smile:

Love

It's crazy busy around here with Canadian tax season, which runs until April 30, but I did manage to finish a page in my Calligraphy Journal. Love was the theme this week, with the Boston Marathon bombings on my mind. In the end, you can see that love prevails, though.

I finished another page in my Calligraphy Journal. I'm finding that the first few entries on a page are the hardest. Once the options are limited it gets easier to figure out what to do next.

Calligraphy Journal

I've started a new journal! OK, don't laugh. I know, another one. The big news will be when I actually FINISH a journal.

This one is going to be full of calligraphy. It is almost 9" x 12" and was inspired by Martha Lever's "BIG" journal.

I wasn't able to buy locally the journal that she uses, so I bought a Fabriano pad of nice smooth paper which is squared with dots. This will help the writing stay straight. Unfortunately, the paper doesn't stay attached to the pad very well, and I could end up rebinding it with my Bind-It-All. The paper is too thin for water-based media, but I'll have a chance to use pan pastels and stamps that I haven't used for awhile.
