When Life Gives You Lemons...

make artist trading cards!

Here you can see the foam stamp made by one of our Vancouver Artist Trading Card members.  She made these for our swap a few months ago.  Ingenious, eh?

And While the Sewing Machine Was Out.....

I made a junk journal out of a file folder.

Rose brought one of these that she made to the last Vancouver Artist Trading Card Swap.

I sewed old book paper, ledger paper and scrapbook paper to it.

Some people make journaling cards to put in the pockets.

Mine is currently holding bookmarks ready for The Bookmark Project.

Follow the Spark: A New Junk Journal

"Follow the spark", Penelope our Vancouver Artist Trading Card organizer, said.  She credited Nick Bantock for this instruction on chasing down passing inspiration.

"This would make a great book", Rose said.  "See how it folds out?"  Rose brings lots of interesting stuff to put on our "free table" at the swap.  Apparently, this was junk mail with potential!

I couldn't resist, and brought it home.  It didn't sit for long - that spark just wouldn't go away.

I sewed paper on it, including this map from a Paris Brochure,

book paper, scrapbook paper

ledger paper

an architect's plan, music

I'm collecting embellishments that I'll store in this envelope I included.

Where is the spark leading you?

The Social Calligraphy Collective: Gathering Creative Community to Spark Change

We made these encouraging cards last week at The Social Calligraphy Creative.

They will be given to women in recovery.  The organizer of The Social Calligraphy Creative, who  volunteers at a Vancouver centre helping women, says that these small notes of encouragment mean a great deal to many there.

They are each invited to choose one and take it home to pin up where they can read the encouragement each day.

The Collective meets once a month to practice lettering, socialize, and do calligraphy for social change.

Summertime

Summertime can bring a wonderful change of pace - like enjoying the weather and spending time in the garden.  I'm working on some book projects and have found a new calligraphy project, #letteringforchange.  Twice a week, on Social Change Saturdays and World-changing Wednesdays, we letter a new quotation.  It is all hosted by @socialcalligraphy.

These are the first two for July, both done mostly in watercolor.
