Hubby whisked me away for a weekend getaway to Victoria.  We visited family mostly, and I needed a birthday card to take.  This ATC made a nice seasonal greeting, don't you think?

These Artist Trading Cards were quick and fun to do.  Using a stamp by Crafty Individuals, I stamped using Versamark, and then applied Pan Pastels.  And then I experimented with all kinds of color combinations!

Colouring Books Are All the Rage

Colouring books have been gaining popularity with adults, who want to access the calm that comes from brushing colour across a page.  I decided to create my own pages from the stacks of calligraphy practice sheets that I couldn't bear to throw away.

I've discovered that the index cards are like journalling on loose pages.  This is also something that I wanted to try but there were so many options of paper size and type that I got overwhelmed.  Index Cards removed the options and I might be ready to give it a more serious go when the ICAD project is finished.  Thanks Tammy!

Paint My Photo

 

 

I found a wonderful site where "artists and photographers meet".  It is called Paint My Photo, and allows artists to paint from other people's photos without worrying about copyright issues.  Thanks to Martha Lever for sharing this site on her blog.

 

This is my impressionist rendition of an Autumn Road in Michigan.  It is done in PanPastel.



Playing With Pan Pastels

 

 

I'm currently reading Wabi-Sabi Art Workshop by Serena Barton.  Serena uses acrylic paints a lot, but today I thought I'd try her simple landscape using Pan Pastels instead.  I did it in my old book journal.  The book pages offer the right amount of tooth for the Pan Pastels.





Stormy

 

We've had a stormy start to fall this year, and it inspired a page in my old book journal.  This page includes watercolor sprayed through a stencil, pan pastels and pencil crayons, finished off with a Micron pen.



A Card for Rylan

 

 

My four year old grand nephew participated in the Terry Fox Run this year, and I want him to know that he's the BEST!  I'm happy that his school and parents are encouraging him already to support worthwhile causes.  

Soft Breezes

 

The inspiration for this journal page was the Use Every Stamp 2013 challenge.  I'm making my way through some fruit and vegetable stamps, so I first used the pineapple stamp with Versamark and Pan Pastels and then added the palm trees the same way.  This piece of clip art seemed to suit the background perfectly.  A soft breeze was blowing through my window at the time and it all reminded me of lovely days spent in Hawaii.  Ahhhhhhh...

More Bookmarks

 

I made these bookmarks by writing on cardstock with bleach and then adding Pan Pastels for colour.  They are part of an ongoing series using words from a song by Linnea Good.



Neuland and Script

Here are a few pictures of  a book I  made containing samples from the "Neuland and Script" seminar I took through the Westcoast Calligraphy Society.

This is the cover, made of Tyvek and decorated using the Sumi Sink technique and pan pastels:

Many of the pages contain lyrics from a favorite song based on Psalm 100:  "Make a Joyful Noise", by Linnea Good.  This page is one of several where the words are done with bleach on black card stock, and coloured with pastels.

The Neuland script on this next one is white gouache; the script is a white gel pen.

Missy

Missy is a bit judgmental sometimes.  Either that or she is sucking marbles.

Missy was drawn in my old book journal, using Pan Pastels.  The pastel part was easy.  Drawing is a bit hard in this book because I can't see the drawing very well until I add the colour.  But this leads to some interesting characters, like Missy.
