Art Sparks 2! Color. Collage. Concertina.

I'm taking another on-line class from Joanne Sharpe.  We needed to buy or make a concertina or accordian book from watercolor paper.  I chose to make rather than buy; it is 5" x 7" in a landscape orientation.

Connecting to Creativity with Collage

The next class I took at my virtual art retreat was with Veronica Schander, who is a certified SoulCollage facilitator.  (I can't adequately describe SoulCollage in my own words, so please follow the link for information.)

We began by making a SoulCollage card, following the instructions found here.  Then we wrote about the card, completing the sentences "I am One Who",  "I honor" and "I give the gift of".

We then used this as inspiration for some art.  Here is mine: 

The Process of Making Art

I am fascinated by the process of art making, whereby artists take an idea or inspiration and turn it into art.  Last weekend I attended a free virtual art retreat from Art is Magic, and most of the classes I took sparked my interest in that way.

One of the classes I took was "The Fetch:  An Art of Sacred Seeing", and in this class, artist Amanda Grace shared her tips for finding and working with imagery.  This wasn't limited to collage, but included things like altered books and using carbon paper to transfer images.

Amanda's Irish accent was a treat to listen to, and she has a great Instagram TV series on mixed media supplies.

Tiny Sparks

I have finished filling one of the books that I made in Joanne Sharpe's class "Art Sparks".  It is called "Tiny Sparks" - it measures only 2 1/4" x 3".
