Japanese Double Pamphlet No. 2

The journal that I made a month ago is almost full.  I love the size and the paper, so I made a second Japanese Double Pamphlet, decorated with acrylic ink in warm fall colours.  This one also has a split cover.

With the leftover bits I made a couple of bookmarks too.

Japanese Double Pamphlet

I'm working through my current journal so fast that I've made my next one already.  I decided on a square format this time (7"), with the same Deserres Fabriano mixed media paper.

This is my first Japanese Double Pamphlet, which allows for two signatures.  I got the instructions from Roz Stendahl's free pamphlet binding class.

The Japanese Double Pamphlet can be made with a "split cover", which allowed me to use up some painted paper that wasn't wide enough to go all the way around from front to back.  In the photo below, you can see the covers in the middle of the two signatures.  If you make the cover using a single piece, this part would be a pleat, rather than two pieces.  It is hard to explain and a bit hard to line up all the pieces, which are stitched with a single 5 whole pamphlet stitch. 

I did have two strips left over so I made a couple of bookmarks for The Bookmark Project.

Sewn Artist Trading Cards

I missed Silly Scraps Saturday yesterday because my office/studio is so hot that it is unbearable most of the day.

Ah, that's better.

I had an overwhelming urge to get out my sewing machine last week.  The Vancouver Artist Tradeng Card Group swap was approaching so I cleaned the inchies out of my scrap box and made these.

That doesn't mean that I'll stop any time soon, though.  I'm enjoying making these mosaics so much that I made a few Artist Trading Cards for the Vancouver swap.  The colour theme is "fire".

Try Your Own Handwriting

Often it is difficult to get the right size greeting stamp for your card, so get bold and creative and use your own handwriting!  The recipient won't mind and you'll save yourself some time and money.

The Clean-Up Yields Some Cards

I like stamping and playing with the pencils, the mechanics of card making (measuring, cutting, matting, etc.), not so much.  Often my stamping ends up in a box labeled "Projects in Process".   During my recent clean-up of my office/studio, I vowed to turn these into finished product that can leave the house.  Kind of a "use it or lose it" pledge.

Whenever I make artist paper of any kind, I ask myself, "So, what are you going to do with that?  Will it end up in a file/box/baggie with all of the other artist and scrapbook papers?"  This question haunted me long before I bought a Gelli Plate and prevented me from buying one earlier.

So, almost as soon as I made a print or two I had to do something with them.

Touring

When I was cleaning out my Mom's apartment last year, I came across an old "Touring" card game that we used to play when I was a child.  Great vintage collage fodder, although it took me awhile to get the nerve to cut into the cards.
