Ginger Stamp

I'm a bit rusty, but I like the way this ginger stamp turned out.  Here is the sketch that I used:

Stamp Carving

It's been snowing steadily all day, so I've been working in my sketchbook and carving stamps.  This is an interesting idea for a flower that I got from Julie Balzer.  I carved a small stamp from some leftover rubber and stamped it four times:

Ah Fook's: The Coolest Spot in Town

I'm liking this new sketchbook process - paint and draw at random, then write sequentially.  The text looks like a random background pattern and I love the crowded look of it somehow.  The complete opposite of my days here, which are long and lazy, with lots of time for sketchbook madness.

Did you know that Ah Fook's is the coolest spot in town?  An equally mad supermarket, it is one of the oldest on Maui, and a local favorite.  It was the first supermarket here to install air conditioning, and so coined this catchy phrase as its slogan.

Soon I'll be back home - in another cool place.  Brrrrr!

Sugar

Sugar mills and plantations play a large part in the history of Maui, Hawaii.  The last mill is closing at the end of this year, and the 36,000 acres planted in sugarcane will change.  So, after many visits to Maui, we finally visited the sugar museum.

The equipment they use for harvesting is huge!

Will the old post office survive?  The population of Pu'unene is now about 50.

And of course, I had to honor the visit in my sketchbook.  They had little hand carved stamps for the kids, so I included a couple.

So Many Sunsets!

I've taken dozens of sunset pictures, each one different.

They even go all around the sky!  This is the same evening, same time, but in the opposite direction.

Amazing.

More Sketchbookery......

....as Mary Ann Moss calls it.  She's great.

My sketchbook has morphed into a travel journal filled with a little of everything!

You can see that I'm still trying to identify plants:

...and channeling a little Georgia O'Keefe:

But mostly just relaxing!
