A Month in My Journal

Last week at the Westcoast Calligraphy Society meeting we learned how to paint watercolor art deco roses, inspired by Mackintosh and Hunter.   They are fun and meditative to paint.  These were done with a very small brush - 2/0.

It is hard to believe that we are almost at the end of October!  I haven't done too much in my journal, but in the last month I've got a new chair to draw...

....cleaned out my watercolor palette again...

and of course, drawn my slippers once.

Sketching at the Library

The overhead lights are too diffuse at the library to show good shadows, but I had fun with the chairs in this drawing.  The idea of drawing all the books on the shelves didn't appeal to me, however.

No End

There seems to be no end to the inspiration to draw my office chair and painting apron.  At the moment I'm working with water soluble ink and using watercolor to paint only the areas that are in shadow.

Drawing as Meditation

Sometimes when I do a lot of painting, I find that I miss drawing.

Drawing is a kind of meditation for me.

The concentration and focus are calming and peaceful.

The Chairs of Belvedere

This could be a series - The Chairs of Belvedere.  If my mom is sleeping when I visit her I often draw a chair.   This is direct to watercolour; I'm still doing the 30x30 challenge.

Chairs

I love to draw chairs.  They're a mini-perspective-exercise, while also conveying an invitation to sit down, rest awhile and be in community.

This sketch was done in my How Small is Too Small? journal, which turned into a journal that I keep in my purse for "sketching emergencies".
