As I previously mentioned, I'm currently reading Joanne Sharpe's book, The Art of Whimsical Lettering. Joanne doesn't teach calligraphy, she encourages us all to embrace our own handwriting, and teaches techniques to make it look more interesting. Her philosophy is to embrace the imperfections. So, I made a few imperfect artist trading cards for the next swap.

Neighborhood Park
I went yesterday to a neighborhood park, Douglas Park, to sketch. This is the community center.
A bike is a great way to scope out the scene and pick a spot. I found a picnic table in the shade - perfect!

Revisiting a Favorite
I almost said "revisiting an old favorite", but I'm sure Joanne Sharpe wouldn't appreciate that! LOL Joanne's Letter Love class is an "old" favorite of mine, and I'm revisiting it by reading her new book "The Art of Whimsical Lettering". Fun!

My First Car Sketch
Inspired by Ms. Moss from LA, I'm sketching in the car. Not while driving, of course.
My first sketch also features a car.

And September is just beginning:
Joanne Sharpe continues to come up with interesting ideas for our monthly pages. In this one we did a Trompe L'Oeil effect, drawing a composition book and writing tools on our journal page.
