Spectacular Light

I was driving home at sunset on Thursday in a unique combination of twilight, a pending storm and a rainbow.  It all made for spectacular light, which I found impossible to reproduce in my journal. Hopefully the process of attempting has cemented the memory in my brain.

Drawing Faces

Lately I've been quickly filling pages in an old sketchbook with faces, still inspired by a book on Fashion Illustration.  I do 10-15 per page in 15 minutes, and most of them are terrible.  But there are a few intriguing ones, all done with fountain pen:

Camellias

I was walking to church in the drizzle on Sunday, and saw a beautiful camellia, blooming amongst the leaves of a maple tree. I didn't know that there are fall blooming varieties so I thought it might be something else. It was so beautiful I had to paint it that very afternoon!

Finishing a Journal

When I begin a journal, I usually leave the first page blank, and complete it when the journal is finished. On this title page I put the dates covered by the journal.
