Different Colours

Yesterday I mentioned that learning from my mistakes was something that keeps me drawing.  There were so many changes that I wanted to make on the drawing I posted yesterday, that I drew the same truck again the next day.   I changed the colours too, just because I can!

Learning As I Go

Each time I do one of these sketches there is something that I want to do differently next time.  This keeps me drawing.

Lettering for Love

The Westcoast Calligraphy Society's latest project is making bookmarks for residents and staff at one of the local care homes.

Participating is a chance to say hello, give thanks, and practice skills all at the same time!

Trying One on My Own

I played again with Ian Fennelly's drawing process.  This time I added paint over the very rough grey Tombow marker sketch and then sketched in permanent fineliner after the paint was dry.

My selection of grey markers is limited, so I used grey paint for toning.  Ian's method reminds me a bit of Stephen Reddy's grisaille technique (with ink), so I may play with this a little more.

I Can't Resist an Old Truck

Ian Fennelly gave a free 1-hour truck sketching seminar earlier this month.  It's wonderful that with Zoom we can travel to England for such a thing.  It was the middle of the night here in Vancouver so I didn't attend live, but watched the replay.

Ian modified his usual process so that we wouldn't have to watch paint dry.  Before beginning, he lays pens on the page to represent the major perspective lines and positioning, then sketches the rough shape in gray Tombow (water soluble) marker.  He then did a more detailed sketch in permanent pen and used some grey and black Tombow markers to add tones before adding paint.

Fabulous Flat Brush Flowers 2

The second series of Violet Smythe's Fabulous Flat Brush Flowers classes includes tulips, my favorite flowers.  And if that wasn't tempting enough, my sister, Dianne, agreed to take it with me.  Yay!

These tulips are actually hot (opera) pink; the picture doesn't do the colour justice.
