Venice, Italy

I'm having so much fun with these Instagram challenges that I've got two sketchbooks going - one is drying and I can start a second!  They're getting bigger too - this one is 9" x 12".

This is a first-time challenge by Urban Sketcher @fannyblu64, #drawwithfannyblu1.

#drawbrianslighthouse

Today, @brejans takes us to the North Foreland lighthouse on the Kent coast of England.  It was built in 1691.

Blue and Yellow

I loved the blues and yellows in the Instagram photo by @marina_simahey , so I left the rest black and white.  #drawmarinaoleron

Dagger Brush Flowers

I've been using my new dagger brushes for the urban sketching challenges, so I spent some time seeing what interesting shapes they would make and trying out some flowers.

Every brush is different and it takes a lot of playing to get comfortable with them.  As long as you keep a spirit of play and don't set expectations ahead of time it is fun!

#drawbrianshutagain

As the pandemic celebrated its one year anniversary, @brejanz on Instagram posted an anniversary edition of his first challenge.  He's got all kind of interesting photos for sketching!

Hotel Belvedere

Again from @solene_hery, and her #lastminutedrawingchallenge, this is a hotel in Switzerland.  From the photograph, it looks to be in the middle of a mountain highway curve!

This is from another Instagram sketching challenge, this one from @solene_hery.

Trucks are more fun.

Church Bulletin

Our minister has retired, so it is all hands on deck to put on the Sunday Zoom service.  I have agreed to provide pictures for the weekly bulletin.  This week I added some calligraphy to a flat brush tiger lily.

Urban Sketching During a Pandemic

Urban sketchers around the world have been forced to draw at home, from photos, rather than onsite.  Instagram abounds with challenges, this one from @Kimkanone_ in Germany.

A Different Point of View

I was attracted by the upward viewpoint of the photograph that inspired this sketch.  I found it on Unsplash.
