Last week I posted my imaginary town.  This is a room inside my house.

Testing, Testing, 1-2-3

 

My sketchbook is also a place to test out supplies and new techniques.  Here I was drawing with a Hunt 102 mapping nib and Sumi Ink.

 

This is a test of a background technique that I'd done before but forgotten about.  I scribbled water soluble markers on a baggie, sprayed it with water and then applied it to the page.  You can also use food wrap or thinner plastic bags, an acetate sheet, acrylic block or craft sheet to do a similar thing.

I've been reorganizing my Artist Trading Card binders so that each artist has a page dedicated to their art, rather than having them presented in date order.  This has inspired me to create a few ATC's of my own and has rekindled a love for some of my favorite rubber stamps:

I'm still inspired by Dave Brethauer's book Stamp in Color.  His pencil crayon techniques are different than I have seen or read elsewhere, but they are very intuitive to me.  They are like I used to do before I got confused by other people's instructions.  LOL  Go figure.

Update on the Calligraphy Journal

I finished another page in my Calligraphy Journal over the weekend.  I'm not 100% happy with the journal or the paper.  The pages fall out of the glued pad too easily and the paper is a little bit thin so certain stamp inks bleed through.  Yes, it is really just a pad of paper if I could only admit it.  So, I should say that I'm working on loose pages at the moment.  The advantage of this, however, is that if I find paper I like better I can switch over and bind it all together when it is finished!

It's crazy busy around here with Canadian tax season, which runs until April 30, but I did manage to finish a page in my Calligraphy Journal.  Love was the theme this week, with the Boston Marathon bombings on my mind.  In the end, you can see that love prevails, though.

Home to Roost

My mom used to say "One day your chickens will come home to roost."  Now she's immortalized in my journal.

This page uses some stamps I haven't used in awhile, as well as a brand new hand carved chicken.  The stamps were stamped in Versamark and then sponged with Pan Pastels.  I'm loving this technique to get coloured images into my journal right now.
