Published

I'm cleaning out some old magazines, including those I was published in.  I'm trying to decide whether digitizing is enough or whether I should create a portfolio of originals...

Any thoughts?

Modifying Teesha Moore's Amazing 16 Page Journal

I've made further modications to Teesha Moore's Amazing 16 Page Journal so that it fits into my Traveler's Notebook.  These ones feature:
  • a single signature made from three folios
  • the whole signature is the same as Teesha Moore's book - i.e. her cover is also a folio in my latest version
  • 3 sheets of 14" x 17" paper made the signatures for these 2 books
  • the signature is made from my favorite Deserres mixed media paper
  • covers made from gelli prints and other acrylic play
  • five hole pamphlet stitch

I love the flaps and foldouts but now I have my favorite paper too!

Filling up the Card Box

The birthday card box was empty again so I made a few cards with a (handcarved) shadow stamp and an old flower stamp from Hero Arts.  The greeting is brush lettering.

Happy New Year, everyone!

What Can I Do With All Those Gelli Prints?

I often try and ask Mr. Google this question.  The best answer, as usual, is within me.

Recently, I had a whim to print with gold paint on black paper.  I made an artist trading card (above), and a few Christmas cards (below).

Gelli Print Cards

I made some cards out of the prints I made at a gelli plate play day.

The stamp is by Hero Arts.

The brush lettering was done with Pilot Touch markers.

March's Calendar Project

It was my sister Dianne's turn to pick the theme last month, and she chose "things that fly".  It was a challenge to think of so many things that fly; I think I cheated a bit.  LOL

Adding a Layer of Stamping

Stamps by Hero Arts, Magenta, inque boutique and me

I've added some layers of stamping to one of my masterboards.  Because the brayered acrylic is a bit rough, I used paint rather than ink to do the stamping.

Stamping with paint gives a lovely, bright effect, but it is a bit more time consuming.  I brayered out the layers of paint on a paper palette using the same colors as the brayered layer, and then used it as a stamp pad.  A mixture of bold and more delicate stamps makes it more interesting.  Messy but fun!

When Something Works, Do it Again

Stamp By Hero Arts

After the ATC failure, I wanted a success, so I went back to a technique that worked.  When you're out of Thank You cards, you need something that you know will work!

The Clean-Up Yields Some Cards

I like stamping and playing with the pencils, the mechanics of card making (measuring, cutting, matting, etc.), not so much.  Often my stamping ends up in a box labeled "Projects in Process".   During my recent clean-up of my office/studio, I vowed to turn these into finished product that can leave the house.  Kind of a "use it or lose it" pledge.

Here are the first two cards:

Firestorm

Around the time of the horrific Fort McMurray fire, I was working on Artist Trading Cards for our local Vancouver swap.  It is clear from these pictures that the fire influenced my art at that time.

Using Up Scrapbook Paper

There are many reasons why I'm motivated to keep up The Bookmark Project.  One of them is that it is a great way to use up scrapbook paper and card stock.  I don't scrapbook, and I bought more than I can ever use on greeting cards for friends and family.  I've thought about taking it all to the local Artist Trading Card group and giving it away, but I still like using it occasionally, and I do have a passion for paper, right?
