The King and I

This handmade book was inspired by an article by Jeannine Stein in the March/April issue of Cloth Paper Scissors - "Books with a Repurpose".  In this article, Jeannine shows how to use recycled materials (postcards, food packaging, greeting cards, etc.) to make hand sewn books.

The covers of this book are made from large playing cards and the pages are security envelopes, sheet music and plain paper.  I didn't have any book cloth for the spine, but I had a long strip of sturdy zebra printed cloth generously given to me years ago by a member of Canadian Stamp Talk, and it seemed to work fine.

Wow.......this is so cool! I wanted to make one of these too! Thank you for sharing it.

I just wanted to tell you Susan that i have not been very successful with etsy......some folks have been having troubles paying for the items..........things don't work on the site........but then also maybe i'm not committed enough to posting something new every day. The thing about etsy is you have to be regular about posting. You'll find many helpful articles and inspirational posts on the etsy forums. Do you get their newsletter? Great stuff.......also do you subscribe to Mehylah? that's a good one to get too! Lots of great info.

Love, violette xo

i have another suggestion.......since you're so talented you could create projects for magazines and submit them - you'll get paid for it.....then you could submit a proposal for a book if thats a route you'd like to take........teaching is also another way to make money from your passion!

Love, violette

Nice book Susan. I have a deck of those large cards just waiting to be used in a project, maybe something like this would be a good idea.
